Did you know that 60% of women experience menopausal symptoms.
The average age of onset is 51 although you can enter peri menopause as early as your 30’s.
It doesn’t just affect your reproductive system. It can affect your weight, cholesterol, mental health, and much, much more.
Keeping active can help keep a sense of self worth. Putting yourself first, keeping an appointment and moving forwards towards better wellbeing is imperative during the stages of menopause.
Working with weights and multi directional exercises can help keep your bones strong as the oestrogen in your body reduces.
Low oestrogen levels can increase your body temperature to an uncomfortable degree, oestrogen controls the part of your brain (hypothalamus) that regulates body temperature which can lead to hot flushes.
Brain fog is extremely common. If you have had a baby and experienced baby brain, it can feel very similar.
Pelvic floor changes. Low oestrogen in the body can affect muscle strength, just like losing muscle strength in your arms and legs it can also affect some of the internal muscles too.
Your pelvic floor muscles are like a sling. They are connected to both sides of your hip and they help to support your uterus/womb, your bladder, and your bowel. This sling of muscle holds everything up and in. The weakening of these muscles can result in a loss of structural support to these organs. This can then cause these organs to shift, this can result in things like urinary incontinence, the ability to hold it or having to go much more frequently. Pelvic prolapse, pain during intercourse.
Eating well can make all the difference. Keeping a level blood sugar throughout the day can help with a more restful and better sleep at night and let’s face it, after a good night sleep the day is always much better!
